On October 2, 2010, the Rotary Club of Ojai West will sponsor “The Ojai Big Chili Cook-Off.”. From noon until 6:00 p.m., contestants will cook and guests will taste some of the best chili and salsa in the state.
At stake is over $4000 in prize money. Live dance music will be provided by Jet Stream, Kyle Hunt and the King Gypsy, and the Johnny Cash tribute band, With a Bible and a Gun.
Guests can take free lake tours on Big Chili’s 45-foot pontoon tour boat. Kids’ activities include a rock climbing wall, obstacle course, giant slide, and bungee jump. Adults can purchase a glass of wine or ice cold beer, buy lunch at the Rotary’s signature BBQ or peruse vendor booths.
The Ojai Big Chili Cook-Off is an Earth-friendly event and will use biodegradable products. A free shuttle that takes you to and from Ojai will run throughout the event.
For the last twenty four years the Rotary Club of Ojai-West has sponsored the Annual Ojai Wine Festival . Rotarian and Fund-raising Director David May explained, “The Ojai Wine Festival has become a huge success and we were looking for another fundraiser that would be its compliment.” In 2009 thousands of people attended the our first Ojai Big Chili Cook-off which was a fantastic success with forty chili and salsa cooks competing for the grand prize. The Ojai Big Chili Cook-off and our annual Ojai Wine Festival raise funds for important Rotary programs and projects. Its events like these that helped to put Ojai in Sunset Magazine’s top five food and wine haven’s in the west.” May added.
All proceeds go directly to Rotary’s charitable causes, such as PolioPlus, local scholarships and free educational boat tours on Lake Casitas to our local public school students.
Admission is $15 for adults and includes 5 chili and salsa tasting tickets. Children 12 and under will be admitted free. Special parking for motorcycles will be provided.
Tickets and information are available online at www.ojaibigchili.com or at the Attitude Adjustment Shoppe in Ojai.
